Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Albert Square and St Stephen's Association, representing all the people who live in this conservation area in historic South Lambeth.

Who we are

Albert Square and St Stephen's Associations - ASSA - was revived in 1980 to represent the interests of all those who live in the conservation area made up of Albert Square and the neighbouring streets of Aldebert Terrace, Wilkinson Street and St Stephen's Terrace, and the houses on Clapham Road that back on to the Square.

Why we were set up

ASSA aims to preserve the unique character of our area, and enhance the quality of life of all who live there.

Area News

Anti-social youth warning

Residents in Aldebert Terrace have been under verbal and property attack from a group of three anti-social young men. Our community support policing team is dealing with this. If you are aware of these youths and can give descriptions to the police, or if you need to contact the police about them or their actions, please call Sergeant Geoff Ross on 07920 233836.

No to third runway!

Aircraft noise continues to plague our lives and will get even worse if the proposed third runway at Heathrow is built. ASSA has been a long-term supporter of our sister resident organisations in the South West and West London areas campaigning against the third runway, and local residents have been invited to a major conference organised by HACAN Clear Skies and NoTRAG (No Third Runway Action Group) and environmental organisations on Saturday 26 July from midday to 5pm at Harlington Baptist Church, High Street, Harlington to look at the next steps in the campaign. More details on the event here or here.

2008 AGM

The minutes of the AGM held on 24 June and the Committee meeting held on 2 June are now available.

Big Green Challenge

ASSA has entered the Big Green Challenge competition with the object of reducing the CO2 emissions of the community by 60% in an innovative, scalable and replicable way. We are already down to the last 100 in the competition and will find out in July if we have made it to last ten and get our project implemented. We will be giving a presentation at the AGM.
